The Xunta highlights the Innovaugas 4.0 and Merlin projects as tools to advance in the modernization of the water cycle through innovation and digitization

  • The Xunta de Galicia, through the Innovaugas 4.0 program, works to achieve advanced integrated water management and provide a long-term response to the different demands, in balance with the natural environment and addressing challenges such as climate change.
  • The objectives of the initiative are to improve water management, increase resilience to climate change and incorporate the circular economy model into the water cycle.
  • This project promoted by the Xunta to achieve new solutions for water management has a budget of €7 million.
  • Augas de Galicia also presented Merlin, an early warning system based on weather forecasts to warn of flood risk, being able to anticipate and adopt the necessary measures to protect the population and the environment.

The director of Augas de Galicia, Teresa Gutiérrez, and the coordinator of Innovaguas 4.0, Enrique Benavides, participated this Tuesday in Madrid in the Smart Water Summit 2023, in which different water administrations presented advances in the modernization of water management.

The representatives of Augas de Galicia gave a speech under the title Tratamiento avanzado de datos aO servizo da Administración Hidráulica de Galicia-Innovaugas 4.0 y Merlín.

Regarding the Innovaugas 4.0 project, the Xunta highlighted the objective of achieving advanced integrated water management to optimize water resources and provide a long-term response to the demands of different water uses.

This initiative, as they explained, emphasizes water management in balance with the natural environment and river ecosystems, respecting the environmental objectives established for the bodies of water and taking into account the new scenarios determined by climate change.

The initiative seeks to improve the management of water resources and the environment, increase resilience to climate change and incorporate the circular economy model into water cycle management.

The Innovaugas 4.0 project, promoted by the Xunta, has an investment of 7 million euros and is 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through Spain's Pluri-regional Operational Program (POPE) 2014-2020.

Regarding the Merlin program, the director of Augas de Galicia explained that it is an early warning mechanism based on weather forecasts to provide flood risk warnings, allowing greater anticipation for the adoption of the necessary measures to protect the population and the environment.

The Xunta, through Augas de Galicia, is promoting the use of tools for the collection, processing and interpretation of data in real time to support decision-making in the field of water management, especially in the face of events such as floods.
