The project Innovaugas 4.0, Advanced management of Galician water resources, promoted by the Xunta, through Augas de Galicia, was awarded as the best public initiative in the water sector in the 'Water Europe Innovation' awards.

The manager of Augas de Galicia, Gonzalo Mosqueira, and the entity's European projects and funds manager, Iván Cacheiro, received this recognition yesterday at the event that took place in Brussels as part of the annual "Water Innovation Europe" conference, one of the leading EU events in the water sector.

Gonzalo Mosqueira explained the objectives of this innovative public procurement project being developed by Augas de Galicia to highlight the strategic commitment to innovation promoted by the Xunta de Galicia.

These awards are organised by the Water Europe (WE) platform, created by the European Commission in 2004, and which currently brings together 250 members from 28 countries representing the entire water value chain, from industry and services and public authorities to civil society organisations.

The aim of this platform is to contribute to solving global water challenges and to generate a smart, sustainable and efficient use of water resources.

Innovaugas 4.0

It should be remembered that Innovaugas 4.0 is a project promoted by the Galician Government, through Augas de Galicia, with the aim of achieving innovative solutions for advanced integrated water management and responding to the demands of the different uses, in balance with the natural environment and river ecosystems, taking into account the scenario of climate change.

The Innovaugas 4.0 project has an eligible budget of 7 million euros and is 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Spanish Multi-regional Operational Programme (POPE) 2014-2020.

Innovaugas 4.0 was selected by the Ministry of Science and Innovation in 2020 in the Line of Promotion of Innovation from Demand and Innovative Public Procurement, with a grant of €4.2 million from European funds. It is also co-financed by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN), which is contributing €700,000, and by Augas de Galicia, which is contributing €2.1 million.
